Northern (Stage 1) Recycled Water Scheme
Stage one (1) of the Northern Recycled Water Scheme will take “A” class quality recycled water from the upgraded Northern Wastewater Treatment Plant and deliver it to the Cairns Botanic Gardens for irrigation purposes.
This recycled water scheme will have the dual benefit of reducing potable water consumption for non-potable uses and also reducing the volume of effluent entering into the environment (potentially damaging the Great Barrier Reef).
The infrastructure to make up Stage one (1) of the Northern Recycled Water Scheme will include trunk supply pipelines and a pump station at the Northern Wastewater Treatment Plant. The construction of the pipeline is currently underway (refer Replacement of the new rising main fort Sewage Pump Station K).
