Lend a hand in Great Northern Clean Up

01 Sep 2011

It’s time to clean up the Cairns region and all residents are invited to lend a hand.

The Great Northern Clean Up will take place next week, encouraging people to get together to rid our region of litter and promote a clean and healthy environment.

Registered clean-up sites will be a hive of activity from September 9 to 11.

“The Great Northern Clean Up is an opportunity for residents to take some ownership of their local environment by volunteering their time or even registering a clean-up site,” Mayor Val Schier said.

“With the wet season approaching, now is the perfect time to clean up. By working together to make 2011 the Greatest Northern Clean Up ever, we can prevent thousands of tonnes of rubbish from being washed into our waterways.”

Council will assist with rubbish removal from registered sites.

Clean-up kits will be made available for distribution from clean-up site leaders on the day.
