"A community without culture - is a community without life"
What is culture? Cairns City Council recognises that culture encompasses our diverse heritage and avenues of expression in the environment, leisure, work and daily life, architecture, arts, history, language and education which people use to express their fundamental character and aspirations.
The Cairns Regional Council boasts a dynamic Community Development team, that includes an Arts & Cultural Planning & Development Officer. The arts policy 'Creative Cairns- building arts and cultural industry' provides Cairns Regional Council with a framework to deliver arts and cultural services using an integrated approach.
The Arts & Cultural Planning & Development Officer strives to work inclusively, encouraging partnerships and open two way communication between Council, the private sector, the community and other government organisations.
Working as part of the Cultural Services and Facilities team, the Officer is committed to cultural and arts planning and development, responding to the needs and trends emerging in the arts and cultural industry in terms of local, regional, state-wide, national and international practice and standards.
The Officer provides a co-ordinated, referral, planning, monitoring and delivery role in relation to cultural planning and arts and cultural services that pertain to Council's core business and its relationship within the arts and cultural community.
The Officer facilitates the Regional Arts Development Fund programme within the Cairns Regional Council Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), providing assistance to eligible organisations, collectives, community groups and individuals who require access to the programme.
