Aims and Scope of Programmes

Museum Development Officer provides professional advice and training to museums, art galleries and keeping places in the Cairns Regional Council area as well as other shires situated in Far North Queensland.  The aim of this programme is to assist local museums and non commercial art galleries to achieve professional standards of operation.

The programme covers a wide range of areas of museum operations, such as:

• collection management
• preventive conservation
• organisation of exhibitions
• promotion
• educational programs
• identifying suitable sources of funding
• assistance with writing grant applications

Services Provided

The training is offered through a series of workshops (organised usually during weekends), as well as through a 'hands-on' training, advice and assistance offered to individual museums.
