Indigenous Employment Strategy

Workforce Opportunities
Cairns Regional Council has an Indigenous Employment Strategy in order to provide a plan for action over a three year period in terms of improving Council’s performance in recruiting and retaining Indigenous employees.

The Indigenous Employment Strategy is connected to and informed by Council’s policy environment particularly the:

  • EEO & Workforce Diversity Policy
  • Cultural Diversity Policy.

Both of these General Policies identify the need for and Council’s commitment to actively recognising and advancing the circumstances of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Council’s Corporate Plan as well as the Human Resource Workforce Strategy incorporate the core elements of this Strategy in order to make sure that the initiatives outlined in this document are embedded in the operational and business planning processes of the organisation.

The People and Organisational Development (POD) Branch, within the Corporate Services department is responsible for leading the implementation of this Strategy, and will report on its outcomes over the three year period (May 2009 to May 2012).
