Educational facilities
The Cairns Campus of James Cook University is located in the northern suburb of Smithfield, and its annual enrolment is heading towards the 4000 student mark.
Cairns is also home to the Tropical North Queensland TAFE campus complete with its own Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander campus and School of Tourism, Hospitality and Catering. Tropical North Queensland TAFE services more than 13,000 clients annually from eight campuses located at Cairns, Innisfail, Tully, Atherton, Mareeba, Mossman, Thursday Island and Bamaga.
The Cairns area is also serviced by State Primary Schools, non-government Primary Schools, State High Schools and Colleges, and several Special Schools.
