Littering
Litter can be any domestic or commercial waste and almost any material that is disposed of incorrectly. It also has significant environmental, social and economic impacts.

The Environmental Protection Act 1994 prohibits littering in Queensland by all persons at a place unless the person has a reasonable excuse.
Litter offences
Littering offences may attract an on the spot fine or a fine by mail, the following table outlines litter offences and associated penalties.
Council regulation
An infringement notice will be issued to a person or vehicle observed littering and payment must be made within 28 days.
A statutory declaration may be submitted within 28 days naming the person responsible and an infringement notice will be re-issued to the person named.
If Council does not receive a payment or statutory declaration within 28 days the matter will be referred to the State Penalties Enforcement Registry.
Council officers may issue warning notices, direction notices or on the spot fines. A direction notice maybe issued initially with information on how to remedy and comply with requirements.
