Street lights & traffic signals
Street lighting
Most suburban street lighting within residential areas (excluding Mulgrave Road/Bruce Highway and Sheridan Street/Captain Cook Highway) is installed and maintained by Ergon Energy.
To report a faulty or damaged street light (non-urgent):
- call Ergon Energy on 13 10 46 (7am - 6.30pm, Monday - Friday); or
- use Ergon Energy's online form; or
- email Customer.Feedback@ergon.com.au
For emergencies and urgent hazardous situations, phone Ergon on 13 22 96 immediately.
Street lights on Mulgrave Road/Bruce Highway and Sheridan Street/Captain Cook Highway are maintained by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR). To report damage or faults to street lighting equipment on these major roads, call DTMR's Far North Region Traffic Management Centre on 13 19 40 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week).
Requests for new street lights should be directed to Council's Customer Service Centre for assessment by the Infrastructure Services department.
Traffic signals
Traffic signals are maintained by the Department of Transport and Main Roads. To report damage or faults, call the Far North Region Traffic Management Centre on 13 19 40 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week).
Council and DTMR assess the need for any new signals according to traffic volume and other relevant factors.
