Drains dangerous in heavy rain

26 Mar 2012

People are reminded that stormwater drains should be avoided during heavy rain.

Drains allow the exit of water from urban areas. Water in drains can be fast moving and the level can rise quickly during heavy rain.

As stormwater run-off enters the drain, it can carry debris and contaminates. This can potentially cause serious health problems for people who come in contact with water from stormwater drains.

If a drain requires maintenance, contact Cairns Regional Council via the website www.cairns.qld.gov.au or phone Council’s customer service team on 4044 3044 in Cairns, 4099 9444 in Mossman, or free call 1800 070 444.
