Household Emergency Plan
Solid preparation is the best way to weather any natural disaster.
While cyclones receive the most publicity, Cairns can also experience fire, tsunami, flooding and landslip with little warning.
It is important to know what you will do in each scenario:
- Know your risk
- Decide in advance if you will evacuate or shelter in place
- Know your evacuation route
- Have a Household Emergency Kit ready
- Take steps to limit damage to your property
This Household Emergency Plan template ( PDF, 0.14 MB ) will help you prepare and includes sections for details many people don't take into account.
When creating your plan, keep in mind that you and other household members may not be at home when a natural disaster occurs and plan accordingly.
Involving everyone in your household in creating your plan will ensure everyone is aware of what to do.
Keep a copy of your Household Emergency Plan in your Household Emergency Kit for easy reference.
