Barronville Park Playground

As part of Council's annual Parks Renewal Program a new playground will be installed (with a shade sail) at Barronville Park at Kamerunga. The community is invited to have their say by choosing a preferred playground option.

The playground designs have been inspired by the history of the park. The name ‘Barronville’ has historical significance to the area. Barronville was the original name for the settlement now known as Kamerunga in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. In 1887 the area was a small township which became the centre of operations for the building of the Kuranda Railway. A branch line connected Barronville to Eight Mile Station which was later called Redlynch. The townships name was later changed to ‘Kamerunga’- an Indigenous name. In 2017, Council resolved to name the park, Barronville Park, in recognition of the history of the area.

The playground project is part of Council’s annual park upgrade and renewal budget. Construction will commence early in the new year.
