Buildings & facilities

Cairns Regional Council has constructed a new Animal Management Facility (AMF) at 55-57 Links Drive, Woree.

The new AMF provides essential services for owner reclaim, rehoming, impounding and basic medical treatment for in-house animals, and a safe working environment for staff.

With the previous facility having reached capacity and come to the end of its useful life, the new AMF offers a best-practice, purpose-built facility with more kennels and cat cages.

The facility includes:

  • a public reception area
  • administration office space and meeting room
  • accommodation for up to 125 animals
  • separate, dedicated areas for general stray/impounded animals
  • maternity care area
  • facilities for high-care and dangerous dogs
  • veterinary treatment, exercise, food preparation and laundry areas.
  • a Sally Port, which is a controlled entry way for the secure transfer of animals from vehicles.
