Cairns Regional Council's 2024-25 Budget was handed down at a Special (Budget) Meeting on Wednesday 19 June 2024.

2024-25 Budget at a glance
- $669 million Budget
- $383 million Capital Works program
- $249 million on water and wastewater infrastructure
- 6.7% rate rise
- $57 million to service and maintain community assets

Infrastructure: Roads, bridges, lighting, drainage, footpaths & community assets
- $3 million for new footpaths
- $6 million for pavement rehabilitation
- $2.6 million for kerb and channel and shoulder sealing
- $2.6 million for road reseal program
- $4.6 million on various drain and flood mitigation works
- $1.4 million to progress Navigation Dr from Shipmate Dr to Moore’s Gully
- $476,000 for upgrade and maintenance of bridges
- $4 million for Johnson Rd, White Rock
- $2.8 million on erosion control measures at Holloways Beach and Clifton Beach
- $725,000 for cemetery improvements and upgrades
Water & wastewater
- $217.7 million to progress Cairns Water Security – Stage 1 project
- $7 million to continue smart water meter rollout
- $340,000 improve the water lab
- $11.7 million to continue construction of a new water storage reservoir at Mount Peter, Edmonton
- $4.1 million to replace water mains at various locations as part of ongoing maintenance program
- $21.5 million on upgrades and improvements to sewer pump stations and networks throughout the city
- $5.2 million on improvements and upgrades to wastewater treatment plants
- $2 million allocated to annual sewer relining program
Economic stimulus
- $3.4m to promote Cairns as a premier tourism destination
- $1.6m to support and develop major sporting and entertainment events
- $10.2m in grants, subsidies and contributions for events, arts and cultural initiatives, marketing and economic development activities
CitySafe
- $5.3m for CitySafe program including increased security patrols and upgrades to the CCTV network
Parks, playgrounds & aquatic facilities
- $1.4 million for Pyramid Parklands Gujura, Gordonvale
- $850,000 to recoat slides at Sugarworld Adventure Park
- $477,000 for redevelopment of Redlynch Skate Park
- $270,000 for Henley Hill Park in Earlville
- $800,000 for filtration upgrades at Smithfield Pool
- $100,000 to progress upgrades at Esplanade Skate Park
- $75,000 for upgrades to Sugarworld Parklands adventure and play areas
Sporting facilities
- $1.5 million for new lighting and AV upgrades at Barlow Park
- $500,000 for upgrades at Touch Park in Aeroglen
Recreation & lifestyle
- $3 million for footpaths, pathways and to promote active travel
- $1.8 million towards the new Trinity Beach Community Activity Space
- $750,000 for refresh and upgrade Smithfield Library
- $250,000 to progress designs for the Cairns Community and Multicultural Centre in White Rock
- $175,000 for annual Botanic Gardens renewal
Arts & culture
- $1 million to open and operate the new Mulgrave Gallery
- $1.3 million for upgrades to Tanks Arts Centre
- $850,000 to complete detailed design for a future gallery at Cairns Gallery Precinct
