Holding exhibitions or events at Mulgrave Gallery

Events and exhibitions for Mulgrave Gallery are developed in partnership with local, state and national arts and cultural organisations and individuals.

Mulgrave Gallery is one of the venue in the development of a Gallery Precinct and will serve as an entry point, a gathering place and a high-level arts and cultural presentation space for the Precinct.

Our programming criteria has been informed by consultation involving national arts and cultural leaders as well as local and regional First Nations and cultural industry representatives.

To have your events, exhibitions, or programs considered part of the Mulgrave Gallery program, please register your expression of interest (EOI) using the online form below.

Your EOI will be assessed against programming criteria by the Curator, First Nations Curator, and Creative Director, Creative Life.


Programming criteria

  • Focus specifically, but not exclusively, on celebrating and supporting contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts
  • Celebrate our city’s unique environment and heritage and celebrate the art and culture created in Cairns
  • Acknowledgethe heritage nature of the buildings in the precinct
  • Develop and nurture curators and other arts professionals in our region
  • Focus on activation and programming which builds a deep connection with the local community
  • Display innovative programming
  • Build relationships with other galleries to host touring exhibitions
  • Offer a diverse range of arts experiences with a focus on outdoor and garden areas hosting changing public art
  • Present multi-arts events in varied spaces within the precinct including live performances and interactive exhibitions

Spaces at Mulgrave Gallery

  • Three white-wall galleries; the Engineers Gallery, Boardroom Gallery and Shire Clerks Gallery, suitable for small exhibitions and workshops
  • Outdoor spaces that link the Mulgrave to Court House Gallery are suitable for breakout spaces and temporary public art.
