Understory Film Festival 2024

It’s time to unleash your creativity and showcase your talent with applications to the 11th Annual Understory Film Festival now open!

The Understory Film Festival has been a cornerstone of Far North Queensland's screen culture for over a decade. We provide a platform for regional filmmakers to share their unique stories and showcase their talent to a diverse audience.

What we're looking for:

  • Short films up to 8 minutes in length
  • All genres welcome: documentaries, dramas, animations, comedies, music videos, and more
  • Creative storytelling that pushes boundaries

Who can apply:

Filmmakers from North and Far North Queensland, spanning from  spanning from Townsville in the south, to the Torres Strait Islands in the north and west to the Gulf of Carpentaria

Why participate:

  • $2,500 prize for Best Film
  • $2,500 prize for People's Choice Award
  • Additional awards judged by screen industry professionals
  • Opportunity to showcase your work to a wider audience
  • Connect with fellow creatives in the industry

  • Screening and Awards Event: Saturday, 23 November 2024 at Munro Martin Parklands
