Artist Bio: Dr. Valerie Keenan is a talented artist, author, curator, and historian based in Tully. The exhibition, Drawing YOU In, is the culmination of a four-year research project that combines creative, historical, scientific, environmental, and cultural perspectives. This work is a significant contribution to the historical fabric of the Herbert River region and showcases the deep connections between its people and landscape. Dr. Keenan’s project received support from the 2019 Vida Lahey Memorial Travel Scholarship (QAGOMA), the Queensland Government Visual Art and Craft Strategy, and the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund, administered in Queensland by the Flying Arts Alliance.
